Tongue nerve stimulator does good for sleep apnea patients

Targeted hypoglossal nerve stimulation (THN) showed safety and efficacy for patients with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea, according to results from the randomized THN3 trial. The trial tested the aura6000 THN therapy systemopens in a new tab or window from ImThera Medical, which consists of an implanted pulse simulation device and a lead that transports the generated pulses to the hypoglossal nerve to activate their lingual muscles and to keep airways clear.
